Steps to Earn Your Commercial Driver’s License

Earning your CDL is a simple three-step process. Here’s how to get started:

LEARN

To train for your CDL, you must be at least 18 years old. You should also possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a DOT physical test. More information on CDL requirements can be found on the New Jersey State Commercial Driver License website. If you meet these requirements, then you can start your CDL journey by enrolling in a truck driver testing training course at Driving Academy.

PERMIT

Once you’ve completed your training program, you’re ready to get your CDL permit. You can earn a Class B CDL by passing a vision test and a series of written tests. The training courses at Driving Academy are designed to provide all the tools and information our students need for the exam, including practice permit tests, priming them for first-time success.

ROAD TEST

The final step is to pass a CDL driving test. You must pass a two-and-a-half hour road test to prove your capabilities. Once you’ve passed, you will receive your CDL and be qualified to operate Class B vehicles. Road test training is included in all courses offered by Driving Academy, including on-the-road practice and training in our simulators.
