Choose Class A, Class B or Class B with a Passenger Endorsement. Then pick automatic or manual transmission.
A CDL Class A license is for tractor-trailers or large vehicles that weigh over 26,000 pounds and have a trailer that weighs more than 10,000 pounds. Once you get your Class A CDL, you can also drive almost any Class B vehicle. This is the most popular CDL license.
CDL Class B is for delivery trucks. A Class B vehicle is any vehicle weighing over 26,000 pounds with or without a trailer, weighing less than 10,000 pounds. Examples of Class B vehicles include dump trucks, box trucks, garbage trucks, and cement mixers.
A CDL Class B+ P allows you to drive vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds and can transport 16 or more passengers. A city bus, school bus or tour bus are each examples of Class B vehicles. With a CDL Class B+P license, you can also drive any other Class B vehicle.

Depending on the type of vehicle you were operating in the military you might be eligible for a waiver to get a CDL without taking the skills (road) test.
You need to be a service member with an active driver's license and have operated military vehicles similar to commercial motor vehicles within the past 12 months to use the CDL skills test waiver form. If you drove a tractor trailer as part of your role in the armed forces you could get a waiver, but not if you drove a tank or Humvee.
This military commercial driver license waiver is available in every state.
However, you still need to pass the DOT physical and take the written CDL knowledge tests.
You will also need to get a CDL license through your nearby DMV using the military road test waiver.
