Tractor-Trailer Class A CDL Training
For many, driving a tractor-trailer has long been a dream. These large and powerful vehicles are a familiar sight on our highways. They get goods and necessities to stores and our front doors. If you’re interested in becoming a truck driver, you’ll need your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). A Class A CDL opens many career opportunities, and the experienced instructors at Driving Academy can help thanks to our comprehensive truck driver training programs.
What Is a Class A CDL?
There are several classes of licenses for driving commercial vehicles. A Class A CDL is one of the most common. Obtaining this license allows you to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating of over 26,000 pounds, assuming the towed trailer weighs more than 10,000 pounds. With a Class A CDL, you can also legally operate Class B vehicles, which opens even more opportunities.

What Can You Drive with a Class A CDL?
One of the most popular vehicles you can drive with a Class A CDL is a tractor-trailer. Tractor-trailers (also called semi-trucks) are large vehicles used for transporting goods. Their containers don’t connect to the frame of the truck. These vehicles come with different types of trailers based on the goods they’re transporting. Types include dry van trailers, flatbed trailers, refrigerated trailers, Conestoga trailers, standard RGN trailers, lowboy trailers, and drop-deck/step-deck trailers
With this license, you can also drive double and triple trailers and tractor-trailer buses. You will also be authorized to operate specialty vehicles like livestock carriers and tankers.
Because you will also be able to drive Class B vehicles, you’ll have the opportunity to operate straight trucks, city buses, tourist buses, school buses, segmented buses, box trucks, dump trucks, and more.
Some of these vehicles require additional endorsements to your license. This requires extra training and testing but can come with great benefits. Driving Academy also offers a Class B+P program, which helps you obtain your Passenger endorsement (P).
What Class A CDL Jobs Are There?
Getting your Class A license lets you go in a lot of different professional directions. Many companies use standard dry van trailers to transport goods. This means those with a Class A CDL can expect to find work easily. You could also take on a role as a dedicated truck driver for a specific customer, which helps you build strong relationships.
Getting the proper endorsements will allow you to drive tankers or hazardous materials. These jobs come with increased pay. You can also consider car hauling jobs, which help move smaller vehicles from one place to another. Depending on your preferences, long-haul and local truck driving jobs may be right for you. Long-haul jobs allow you to experience more of the world, but local jobs keep you closer to home.
CDL Class A TRACTOR TRAILER
A CDL Class A Vehicle is one that weighs more than 26,000 lbs. and has a trailer that weighs more than 10,000 lbs. For example, a Tractor Trailer. Once someone has a CDL Class A license, they can also drive any Class B Vehicle.
